1. Organize Your Paperwork

Filing paperwork is necessary if you want to keep track of all of your important documents. You do not want to lose or dispose of your paperwork. Your documents serve as proof of your bankruptcy. Keeping your discharge order close by will enable you to prove that you do not owe any lenders any debt. You are now at a zero balance. If you do so happen to misplace your paperwork, make sure to request another copy from your attorney. However, there may be fees for making certified copies.

2. Review Discharged Debts

Make sure you are aware of what debts are discharged and which are not. It is important to keep the debts that you owe in good standing. It is helpful to list the bills that require monthly payments such as student loans or child support

3. Create a Budget

Creating a budget is a great method to avoid going back into debt. Budgets can help you visualize how to spend and save your money. This will allow you to plan for the future and get a better picture of what your money primarily goes towards. There are many different ways to budget and plenty of online resources for free to help you get started

4. Create an Emergency Fund

Creating an emergency fund may not seem smart or necessary right after filing for bankruptcy however it is a tip that will help you practice for better money management in the future as well as give you a sense of security in that you have money put aside that is only for one certain purpose.

5. Review Your Credit Reports

Be sure to review your credit score multiple times a year. You get one free credit report per year. It is important to keep track of what you owe and what should've been fixed after filing. You should notice an improvement in your credit score after filing for bankruptcy.
