How to Travel Without Credit

This holiday season you may find yourself in the position of traveling. Whether you are headed to grandma's house, a sunny getaway or a business trip you may feel self-conscious if you face the holidays without a credit card. Is it possible to travel "credit-less"? The answer is yes! In a society that relies on credit cards here is some information on some of the most well-known hotels you may find yourself staying at this holiday.

Most hotels have "credit-less" policies that allow travelers to book rooms. This holiday, find out whether or not your hotel has a policy by calling their toll-free number. According to Paula Langguth, author of Bounce Back From Bankruptcy, "you can usually prepay your entire stay or pick up Travelers Cheques at your bank or local AAA office." Below you will find a few hotels and their policies.

When staying at the Hyatt you will need to make a deposit. The Hyatt allows its guests to pay a deposit using a company check or a personal check. BONUS: The Hyatt invites its guests that stay at least once a year into the Gold Passport Program. This program guarantees your reservation without a credit card or a deposit!

When staying at the Marriott make sure to make a reservation 30 days before you arrive. You will need to pay a room deposit with a money order or a company check. The Marriott does not allow paying with a personal check. Also, make sure your deposit is made within seven days after you make your reservation. BONUS: When you travel for business you can use a corporate credit card to book your room.

Like the Hyatt and the Marriott, when staying at the Hilton you can use a company or personal check to pay for your first night's deposit. To guarantee a room, make sure your check is received within seven days after you make your reservation.

Holiday Inn

The Holiday Inn also requires a deposit for your first night's stay. Like the hotels listed above the Holiday Inn accepts payment through a money order, company check or corporate account.

Best Western

Best Westerns have a Centralized Prepayment Program that lets you prepay a cash deposit for one night's stay. You can also pay for the rest of your stay with a personal check or company check.

Choice Hotels International

Choice Hotels, Quality Inn, Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Rodeway Inn, Econolodge and Friendship Inn are a chain of hotels that all have the same policy when it comes to "credit-less" payment. If you're using a money order, you can pay your room deposit as late as the day before you arrive. However, if you choose to use a personal check you must pay for the room 10 days before you arrive.

Motel 6

Motel 6 has the easiest options for prepaying for a room. At every Motel 6 location you can prepay with cash. You also have the option to send a personal check. However, your check has to arrive at least 14 days before you do.
